University of South Florida Football Passed Away At 20

Teigan Martin was a former football player for Liberty University and the University of South Florida. During the summer break, he was back in his hometown in Minnesota when tragedy struck.

According to a press release from Jason Kamerud at the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, on June 24, 2024, a 9-1-1 call reported a vehicle crash at 5:05am. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a BMW in a ditch. Martin was the only person inside the vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 20 years old.

According to a preliminary investigation, Martin was driving “at a high rate of speed, crossed over the westbound lane of traffic, entered the road ditch, and rolled the vehicle. Martin was wearing a seatbelt, speed may have been a factor, and it is unknown if alcohol was involved in the crash.”

The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy is underway.

Upon learning the news of Martin’s death, the University of South Florida released a tribute on X sharing, “We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Teigan Martin. We extend our thoughts and prayers to Teigan’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.”

According to Martin’s obituary, he was a “fun and easy-going person” who “loved fishing, golfing, and time on the boat with his friends.” He also “had a big and caring heart, especially for his family and loved a good laugh. He definitely was the protective brother to his three younger sisters.  There is nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his friends and family.”

Martin is survived by many family members including his parents, his sisters, his grandparents and even a great-grandmother.
